EWU Softball Season Comes to an End at SIAC Championships with losses to Lane, Spring Hill

Columbus, GA., -- The Edward Waters softball team's 2025 season ended on the opening day of the 2025 SIAC Softball Championships in Columbus, GA.

The Lady Tigers opened the double elimination tournament with a 7-6 loss to Lane College before wrapping up the day with a tough 1-0 defeat to Spring Hill College.

In the opening game of the afternoon against Lane, despite a 5-run deficit in the third inning, EWU almost came all the way back, eventually falling 7-6. The Lady Tigers closed the gap by scoring on a pop out by Laura Scott, a double by Kylah Gardner, a ground out from Calyn Rounsaville, and a double from Victoria Miterko, another double by Janiah Holmes, a fly out by Hailey Vela and a double by Dazha Durand.

The Dragons were the first to get on the board in the first when one run scored on another play.

A single by Ja'Kai Ray, and a ground out by Kathryanne Ivy helped Lane extend their early lead in the second.

A ground out by Sierra Luster extended the Lane college lead to 5-0 in the top of the third inning.

Kyra Vieux hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the fifth for the Dragons.

Autumn earned the win for Lane. The pitcher gave up nine hits and six runs over six and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one.

Shai-Ann Currie pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for EWU. The pitcher surrendered three hits and one run while, striking out two and walking none. Riley Kapparis took the loss for the Lady Tigers. The pitcher went three and one-third innings, surrendering six runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking two.

Kylah Gardner and Victoria Miterko each collected two hits for Edward Waters. Gardner, Calyn Rounsaville, Laura Scott, Hailey Vela, Dazha Durand, and Miterko each drove in one run for EWU. The Lady Tigers stole four bases in the game.
 
In the second game of the afternoon against Spring Hill, EWU watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 1-0 loss. Spring Hill took the lead in the first inning when Destiny Pierce singled, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. The Badgers pitchers struck out nine, while the Lady Tigers sat down nine.
 
Keivana Durand started the game for Edward Waters. The starter allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out nine and walking none. Leighanna Turk started the game for Spring Hill. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking none.

Laura Scott went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead EWU in hits.

The Lady Tigers complete the 2025 season as SIAC East Division Champions with a 27-25 overall record and an 18-6 showing in conference play. The Lady Tigers also had four players named to the All-Conference teams. Kylah Gardner received a 1st-Team selection as an outfielder. Keivana Durand, Laura Scott, Brooke Rice.
