Edward Waters Hoops Pulls Away From Allen in 61-56 Victory

Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters mens basketball team pulled off a tight, 61-56 road Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) victory over AME rival Allen University Monday night inside the John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.

The victory moved the Tigers to 14-6 overall on the season with a 10-3 mark in SIAC play as they went 2-0 in their South Carolina road trip.

The Tigers once again found themselves in a back and forth ball game that went down to the wire. This particular contest saw over the lead change over 12 times as the two squads also played with nine ties in the game.

Despite shooting an abysmal 13.3% from three point range, the Tigers stuck to their defensive principles as they held the Yellow Jackets to just 30.5% shooting from the field including 33.3% from beyond the three point stripe.

Ja'Kobe Williams led EWU with 16 points, two assists and two steals across 36 minutes on the floor. Williams also went a perfect 8 for 8 from the charity stripe. Amari Floyd chipped in 12 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Adonis Tolbert poured in a season- best 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from the field. Tolbert also scored a huge lay up late in the second half to nearly put the game out of reach for the Yellow Jackets.

Head men's basketball coach Cabral Huff expressed how impressed he is with his team's ability to pull off victories in games. "The Find a Way Tigers find a way again on the road to beat Allen with solid defensive effort and timely scoring late," explained Huff.  "Adonnis Tolbert played a huge factor for the Tigers tonight. Having Don (Adonnis Tolbert) step up was huge for us tonight as it speaks to our next man up mentality and our depth. Our defense kept us in the game which allowed us to get a road win and go 2-0 on this road trip."

Jeremiah Kwarteng added eight points with a steal and a rebounds. Trevino Glover finished with six point, a rebound and a steal while knocking down two three point shots.

The Tigers will return to action on Saturday, February 1 as the travel to Savannah to take on Savannah State. Tip off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside Tiger Arena.
