Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters men's volleyball team opened their 2025 campaign with a tough 3-0 loss to Erskine on Saturday evening in the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
The Tigers (0-1) were held to just a .156 hitting percentage for the game as the Flying Fleet finished the match with an 8-2 advantage in blocks and winning the aces battle 8 to 3.
Junior
Richard Hendricks led the Tigers with nine kills and six digs.
Devonte Harmon added eight kills and an ace in his first match as an Edward Water Tiger. Senior
Oneil Daley finished with 17 assists, an ace and a block.
Erskine capitalized on their strong serving game and consistent offensive performance to keep the momentum on their side. While the Tigers battled to stay competitive, the team struggled to find rhythm against a well-disciplined opponent.
Junior transfer
Damon Leavitt had a great all-around game in his competition for EWU compiling nine assists, five digs and four kills. Freshman
Jeremiah Martinez notched five digs and one assist while Junior
Jackson Mandell chipped in three kills, an ace and a dig.
EWU will return to play with a home meeting against Warner University on Tuesday, January 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the Adams Jenkins Complex.
