Lady Tigers Women's Soccer Records 2-0 Shutout Over Florida Memorial in Big Cat Classic

Miami, FL — The Edward Waters women's soccer team found themselves back in the win column with a 2-0 shutout victory over rival Florida Memorial in the Big Cat Classic Wednesday afternoon at Dr. Lester Brown Park. 

For the Tigers, it was their first shutout of the season as they also delivered the Lions their first loss of the season. Despite being outshot in the match by the home team Lions, the Tigers made the most of their opportunities. 

Both teams competed with poise and discipline as they took a 0-0 tie into the intermission. 

But in the second half the Tigers would make their presence felt. Edward Waters took 10 of their 12 shots after the halftime break.

Senior Libby Brown scored her first goal of the season to put the Tigers in the lead, 1-0. Brown, a native of Saratoga Springs, Utah, tallied three total shots including one shot on goal. 

Fellow senior Dahien Cabrera compiled her third goal of the season in the 86th minute of action on an assist from Alyha Velazquez Diaz. Cabrera isn now tied for the team lead with three goals on the season and for Velazquez Diaz it was her first assists of the 2024 season. 

Goalkeeper Olivia Galloway collected her first shutout of the season as she recored six saves on the afternoon. 

The Tigers will be back in action as they visit the No.15 ranked Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday evening, September 21st at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
