Columbus, Georgia-There will be a new champion of the SIAC this season as East Division #2 seed and defending champion Edward Waters saw their season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon, falling 6-1 to West Division #1 seed Spring Hill in an Elimination Game at the 2024 Cricket SIAC Softball Championship.
The Lady Tigers (38-17, 18-6 SIAC) had to climb an uphill battle throughout a majority of the contest as Spring Hill (27-19, 22-0 SIAC) plated the first five runs of the contest. Edward Waters finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth thanks to
Laura Scott's RBI single that cut the deficit to four, but that would be as close as the Lady Tigers would get. The Badgers plated one more run in the top of the seventh, and Edward Waters could not respond, ending the squad's run at the tournament and the 2024 campaign.
Edward Waters had nine hits as a team in the contest, but could not cash in with runs coming home as the Lady Tigers stranded 11 runners on the basepaths.
Laura Scott led Edward Waters at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI in the contest. The loss was charged to
Gracie Mejia, who went 2.2 innings, scattered three hits, had two earned runs, walked one, and struck out one.
