Mount Vernon, Georgia-Tuesday's trip across the state line to Georgia was not a fruitful one for Edward Waters as the Lady Tigers faced Brewton-Parker in a non-conference doubleheader. The Purple & Orange fell 7-4 in Game One and 11-6 in Game Two, snapping their six-game winning streak they brought into the day's action.
GAME ONE: Brewton-Parker 7, Edward Waters 4:
The contest started off well for Edward Waters in the opening contest, plating the first three runs of the game in the top half of the first inning. An RBI groundout from
Kloe Sisson, an RBI triple from
Jade Mention, and an RBI single from
Kylah Gardner gave the Lady Tigers a 3-0 lead. Brewton-Parker responded in the bottom half of the first with two runs of their own on an RBI sac fly and an RBI single that cut the deficit down to one.
The Barons took their first lead of the contest in the bottom half of the third with three runs to take a 5-3 lead.
Jade Mention added to her RBI tally in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to right field to cut the lead down to one at 5-4. Unfortunately for EWU, Brewton-Parker scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to stretch their lead out to 7-4, a lead that EWU could not overcome, giving the home team the three-run victory..
Jade Mention led the Lady Tigers going 2-fo-3 at the plate with two RBI's and a run scored.
Jodasea Peterson took the loss for EWU, going 6.0 innings, allowing 10 hits, six earned runs, walking two, and striking out one.
GAME TWO: Brewton-Parker 11, Edward Waters 6:
Laura Scott, who made her return to the lineup after being out a few games due to a concussion, got the party started for EWU driving in two runs on an RBI single in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead. Brewton-Parker took the lead in the bottom half of the inning with three runs to lead 3-2.Â
Gracie Mejia hit an RBI single to center field to knot the scoring up at 3-3 in the top of the third, then in the top of the fourth
Kloe Sisson's RBI single gave the Lady Tigers the lead again at 4-3. Things then went south for Edward Waters in the bottom of the fourth as the Barons pushed across five runs, then added another three in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 11-4 lead.Â
The Lady Tigers could only muster up two more runs for the duration of the contest from that point on. A
Kloe Sisson RBI double in the top of the sixth, and a Mejia RBI single in the top of the seventh cut the lead to five at 11-6, but not enough to come away with victory.
Gracie Mejia and
Laura Scott each went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the way for Edward Waters.
Shai-Ann Currie was tagged with the loss for the Lady Tigers, going 4.0 innings, allowing 13 hits, seven earned runs, and one walk.
Edward Waters will return home to Jacksonville to host a three-game SIAC East Division series against Benedict. The series will begin on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Memorial Park.
