Jacksonville, Florida-It was an unfortunate end to the regular season for Edward Waters as they hosted Fort Valley State Thursday afternoon at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Memorial Softball Park. The contest was a de facto SIAC East Division Championship Game between the two squads, with the visitors walking away with a 2-1 victory over the Lady Tigers.
Edward Waters (36-15, 18-6 SIAC) cracked the scoreboard first in the contest in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a solo home run from
Kloe Sisson over the center field wall that gave the Purple & Orange an early 1-0 lead. From there, the contest turned out to be a pitchers dual with both squads unable to hit the scoreboard until the top of the sixth inning when Fort Valley State (28-15, 20-4 SIAC) hit a RBI single to knot the score up at 1-1. The Lady Wildcats jumped ahead in the top of the seventh on a solo homer of their own to take a 2-1 lead. EWU was unable to respond in the home half of the seventh, dropping the contest and the East Division title to FVSU.
Laura Scott,
Katie Goodin,
Kloe Sisson,
Brooke Rice, and
Kylah Gardner each went 1-3 at the plate for Edward Waters in the contest, while
Jodasea Peterson took the loss in relief for the Lady Tigers.
Edward Waters will be the East Division's #2 seed at the 2024 Cricket SIAC Softball Championship and will battle West Division #3 seed Lane College in the opening contest on Monday, April 29th at 10:00am in Columbus, Georgia.
