Savannah, Georgia-Edward Waters made their way north of the border to battle I-95 rival Savannah State in a key SIAC East Division matchup. The Lady Tigers were able to keep their division hopes alive as they too two-of-three in the series.
(FRIDAY) GAME ONE: Edward Waters 7, Savannah State 2:
Edward Waters got on the board in the top of the second inning scoring two runs off of two SSU errors, then in the third, added three more runs to roll out to a 5-0 lead. Savannah State plated two runs to cut the lead down to three at 5-2, but the Purple & Orange added two key insurance runs in the top of the seventh to take Game One.
Kylah Gardner and
Jade Mention each went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Gardner drove in two RBI's for Edward Waters.
Jodasea Peterson earned the win for the Lady Tigers, going 6.0 innings and recorded eight strikeouts in the circle.
(FRIDAY) GAME TWO: Savannah State 4, Edward Waters 3 (6 Inn.):
Edward Waters saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end in Game Two of the series as Savannah State took a one run victory to knot the series up at a game apiece.
EWU scored the first run of the contest in the top of the second inning, then plated another in the top of the fourth on a
Gracie Mejia RBI single to right center field to take a 2-0 lead. SSU took their first lead of the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing home three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Edward Waters was able to tie the score up in the top of the fifth on
Kloe Sisson's RBI single to left field, but Savannah State earned what would turn out to be the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an EWU error. The Lady Tigers could not respond in the top of the seventh inning, as SSU dealt EWU a critical loss.
Mhasiah Patterson was the only Lady Tiger that recorded a multi-hit contest, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Shai-Ann Currie took the loss for EWU going 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs.
(SATURDAY) GAME THREE: Edward Waters 13, Savannah State 2:
A determined group of Lady Tigers took to the field looking to avenge their Game Two loss on Friday, while also looking to prove their dominance in the series between the two rivals.Â
Brooke Rice made personal history for herself in the top half of the first inning as her two-run homer gave the junior catcher her seventh homer of the season, while also give her over 100 RBI's in her career. Savannah State responded with a single run in the bottom of the first, and another in the bottom of the third to knot the score up at 2-2.
Edward Waters scored the last 11 runs of the contest with five in the top of the fourth, one in the top of the fifth, and five more in the top of the sixth to bring an early end to the contest via the run rule and earning a series victory.
Jodasea Peterson took another win in the circle for EWU, going 5.0 innings and recording five strikeouts.
Edward Waters will head to Albany State on Wednesday afternoon for a makeup contest from their previous series. First pitch is set for 1:00pm.
