Softball Opens Series With Run Rule Victory Over Allen

Jacksonville, Florida-Edward Waters had an emphatic start to their three-game series with Allen on Thursday afternoon with a 16-2 victory in five innings at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Memorial Park.

The Lady Tigers (23-11, 7-4 SIAC) went down in a slight early hole in the top of the first inning when Allen (3-27, 3-12) got on the scoreboard first with an RBI single. Edward Waters fired back in the home half of the inning after Katie Goodin's RBI single and later scoring on a passed ball to give the home team a 2-1 advantage. The Lady Yellow Jackets would not go away easily as they came back with an RBI double to left field that knotted the score up at 2-2. From that point on, Edward Waters flexed their dominance throughout the remainder of the game.

In the second inning, Edward Waters plated four runs to start to put the game out of reach. Goodin connected on an RBI single, Kloe Sisson had a two RBI double, and Goodin stole home to give the Purple & Orange a 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the third, EWU scored five more runs. Goodin collected another RBI with a bases loaded walk, Brooke Rice was hit by a pitch netting her an RBI with bases loaded, and Sisson cleared the bases with a three-RBI double, making it an 11-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Mhasiah Patterson had a bases loaded walk that scored a run, Katie Goodin also walked, but great EWU baserunning allowed two runs to score, and Brook Rice had a two-RBI single to right field to give the Lady Tigers a commanding 16-2 lead that they would see through to victory after the top of the fifth.

Goodin ended her afternoon going 2-for-2 with five RBI's and four runs scored, while Kloe Sisson had one of her best outings of her young freshman season, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBI's. Jasmine Finuff earned her third victory as a starter this season, going 5.0 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, three walks, and struck out three.

Edward Waters and Allen will conclude their three-game series on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm.
