Lady Tigers Sweep Trinity Baptist

Jacksonville, Florida-The Edward Waters softball squad got back on the winning side on Tuesday afternoon taking both games of a doubleheader against crosstown foe Trinity Baptist. The Lady Tigers won Game 1 4-3, then took Game 2, 8-3.

GAME ONE: Edward Waters 4, Trinity Baptist 3:
Game one of the doubleheader was a tight affair as Edward Waters had to hold off a stiff charge from Trinity Baptist. The visitors cracked the scoreboard first thanks to an RBI single in the top half of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Tigers got on the board on a Kylah Gardner RBI sacrifice fly in the home half of the first to tie things up at 1-1.

Trinity Baptist was able to retake the lead in the top of the third thanks to an EWU error and an RBI sacrifice fly that scored two runs to give the visitors a 3-1 lead, but again EWU was up to the challenge.  Laura Scott hit an RBI single to cut the TBC lead in half at 3-2. In the bottom of the fourth, Gardner smacked her first homer of the season over the center field wall to knot things up at 3-3, then in the sixth, freshman Kloe Sisson hit an RBI double that allowed the Lady Tigers to take their first lead of the game at 4-3 and were able to close things out to take the victory.

Milani Sablan took the victory in the circle for Edward Waters, going 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, five walks, and struck out eight.

GAME TWO: Edward Waters 8, Trinity Baptist 3:
The EWU offense got in gear in a major way in game two, with the Lady Tigers plating the first five runs of the game to have a major stranglehold on the contest. In the bottom of the first, Laura Scott scored on a passed ball,  two base loaded walks, and a Jade Mention RBI single gave the Purple & Orange a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, another base loaded RBI single scored Kylah Gardner to give EWU a 5-0 advantage. TBC brought home their first runs of the contest in the top of the third with a two-RBI single that cut the EWU lead to three at 5-2. Edward Waters added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks to Katie Goodin's RBI double, and Jamiah Holmes' RBI single to push the lead back out to five at 7-2.

In the bottom of the fourth, Laura Scott had an RBI fielder's choice that brought home freshman Miah Jordan to give EWU a commanding 8-2 lead. The Eagles added a run in the top of the fifth inning thanks to an EWU error, but it would not be enough EWU took the game and a sweep of the day's action.

Freshman Jasmine Finuff earned her first collegiate victory with 7.0. innings pitched, allowing two earned runs, three walks, and five strikeouts.

Edward Waters next will take part in the Old Coast Classic hosted by Flagler College on Friday and Saturday in St. Augustine. On Friday, the Lady Tigers will battle Flagler at 10am and Saint Leo 2:00pm.
