Lady Tigers Earn Sunday Split With Florida Memorial

Jacksonville, Florida-A late addition to the schedule saw Edward Waters host rival Florida Memorial in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Memorial Park. The two teams battled to a split of the day's action, with Edward Waters taking Game 1, 6-2, and Florida Memorial earning a 5-3 victory in Game 2.

GAME ONE: Edward Waters 6, Florida Memorial 2:
Florida Memorial plated the first run of the contest in the top of the third, but Edward Waters fired back with four of their own in the bottom half of the third to take the lead. Katie Goodin's two-RBI single, an RBI fielder's choice from Kylah Gardner, and Jade Mention's steal of home gave EWU a 4-1 lead.

The Lady Tigers added two more insurance runs in the the bottom of the sixth inning on Gardner's two-RBI double, pushing the advantage out to five at 6-1. FMU added a run in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Tigers proved to be up to the challenge, shutting down the threat an earning a four run victory in the series opener.

Laura Scott, Brooke Rice, Miah Jordan, and Kayla Saunders each had two hits in Game One, with Gardner leading the way in RBI's with three. Starter Jodasea Peterson picked up her fifth victory of the season, going all seven innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, two walks, and striking out five.

GAME TWO: Florida Memorial 5, Edward Waters 3:
The visitors scored three runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI single and a two-RBI double, giving the Lady Lions an early 3-0 advantage. Edward Waters would plate three runs of their own in the bottom of the second as Caitlynne Lamug reached on an error, allowing Brooke Rice to score and a two-RBI single to center field from Laura Scott, tying the contest.

Florida Memorial would seize control once again in the top of the sixth with two runs scored to take a 5-3 lead that Edward Waters would not be able to respond to, allowing the Lady Lions to split the day's action.

Laura Scott led EWU offensively going 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. EWU starter Shai-Ann Currie saw her record drop to 4-3 on the season, going 5.0 innings, allowing six hits, four earned runs, and two walks in the loss.

Edward Waters begins the SIAC portion of their schedule on Friday and Saturday with a three-game series against East Division foe Fort Valley State. A doubleheader on Friday starts the series at 1:00pm, while a single matchup wraps things up on Saturday at 1:00pm.
