Jacksonville, Florida-After a four-game road trip that spanned three states, the EWU men's volleyball squad came home to host Talladega in a non-conference affair at the Adams-Jenkins Complex on Saturday morning. Edward Waters fell behind after one set, but rallied to take the next three to earn a much needed win, snapping their three-game losing skid.
Edward Waters (3-5) met a Talladega (2-11) squad that came out firing early in the first set. The visitors built up a lead of as many as seven points, ultimately winning 25-19 and putting the Tigers down a set. EWU was able to show some resolve over the next three sets, winning 25-17, 27-25, and 25-21 to take the win and a season sweep of the Tornadoes.
The Tigers hit a solid .273 in the match on 43 kills, while Talladega checked in at .202 on 47 kills. The Purple & Orange had a much more concerted effort defensively, racking up nine total blocks as a team which greatly aided in their success.
Tavion Ford led all scorers with 17 kills, while
Cain Joynes finished with eight and
Aleksander Sobik chipped in with eight.
Dillon Taylor,
Jackson Mandell, and
Aleksander Sobik each had four blocks in the match,
Kenyon Haynes dished out 34 assists, while Ford also led in digs with six.
Edward Waters will officially open SIAC play on the road on Monday, March 3rd against Benedict College at 5:00pm in Columbia, South Carolina.
