Jacksonville, Florida-The Edward Waters offense could not find a sustained amount of traction in their Saturday evening SIAC home contest against Fort Valley State at the Adams-Jenkins Contest, resulting in a 79-75 loss to the Wildcats.
The Tigers (10-16, 9-11 SIAC) fell behind early in the contest, trailing by six at the 13:26 mark of the first half. Edward Waters would seize the lead briefly at the 11:12 mark, but an FVSU run would see the lead swell to five at 21-16 with 8:57 left in the half. Fort Valley State (6-20, 6-14 SIAC) led by seven at 29-22 with 5:36 remaining in the first half but again, an EWU run would. cut the deficit to one at 33-32 with less than a minute left. A late Edward Waters foul would put FVSU at the free throw line where they would hit three shots to take a 36-32 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, FVSU built the lead back up to seven early in the half, but an
Amari Floyd jumper at the 17:30 mark would bring EWU to within two at 41-39. A Floyd three pointer and a
Jeremiah Kwarteng layup would give the Purple & Orange a three point lead with 14:30 left in the half and the Tiger lead would swell to six at 51-45 with 12:54 left. From there, things would go south as the Wildcats took control, grabbing the lead back at the 6:43 mark at 63-61. The Tigers could not get a hold of the lead down the stretch and a rough, late second half would see Edward Waters drop a four point decision to Fort Valley State.
Edward Waters put three players in double figures in the contest, led by
Jeremiah Kwarteng with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Kristian Ford finished with 13 points and six boards, and
Goliath Mitchell wrapped up his night with 12 points.
The 2023-24 regular season will end on Monday, February 26th with a home contest against Albany State at 7:30pm.
