Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters women's basketball team captured their third consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAC) win with a 50-42 victory over LeMoyne-Owen Monday night inside the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
The Lady Tigers, who improved their record to 3-1 in SIAC play, now sits second in the SIAC East Standings with a 6-2 overall record. Fueled by their full court pressure defense, EWU was able to get a full contribution from the entire squad.
The Lady Tigers defense was able to force the Lady Magicians into 22 turnovers that Edward Waters converted into 16 points. Although EWU struggled shooting the ball, they were able to hold LOC to just 33.3% (19-57) for the game. In total, EWU snagged 12 steals and blocked two shots.
As far as scoring, it was the Edward Waters bench that carried the load. Junior point guard
Blesseth Dillingham led the Lady Tigers with 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting from the field in just 13 minutes of action. Dillingham converted on five of her six free throws to put the game out of reach for LeMoyne-Owen. She also added one assist and a steal. Fellow guard
Taniah Bowers was the second leading scorer in the ball game finishing with seven points, a game high four steals, two rebounds and an assist. Bowers also knocked down five of her six free throws.
Nekaya Williams,
Simona Henshaw and
Mia Morel all scored six points apiece. Williams added four rebounds and an assist. Henshaw grabbed six rebounds and two steals. Morel corralled seven rebounds and collected three steals. Senior center
Imani Harris compiled a team best nine rebounds and
E'laijha Brown notched five points, five rebounds and three steals.
Edward Waters will hit the road to wrap up the 2024 calendar year with road contests against Miles College on Thursday, December 19 at 6:30 pm EST before completing their road trip against Spring Hill College on Saturday, December 21 at 3:00 pm EST.
