Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters men's basketball team has now won four of their last five games after defeating LeMoyne-Owen 79-62, Monday night inside the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
With the victory the Tigers improved to 7-4 overall on the season and 3-1 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action. EWU currently sits second in the SIAC East Division Standings just behind Clark Atlanta.
The Tigers dominated the Magicians in every category as the teams never changed leads after the 15:15 mark of the first half. Edward Waters trapping defense forced LeMoyne-Owen into 17 turnovers that the Tigers turned into 23 points.
EWU was able to win the points in the paint battle, outscoring LOC 34-28 in paint points. The Tigers also outscored the Magicians in bench points, 28-17 and fast break points, 22-5.
Prince Davies III got the scoring started early for the Tigers by knocking down his first three shots from beyond the arc. Davies III finished with 14 points, three rebounds and a steal.
Amari Floyd played a terrific all-around game tying the team lead with 14 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal as well as a trio of powerful dunks.
Myles Hosten tallied 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
Kristian Ford and
D'Shun Edwards both contributed well off the bench, scoring nine points each. Edwards added four assists, two rebounds and a block.
Cyrus Huggard-Noel notched eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Guard
Ja'Kobe Williams led the squad with eight rebounds and eight assists while chipping in five points and two steals.
"Solid win at home for the Tigers as we close the first half of the home season undefeated," expressed Head Coach
Cabral Huff. "We shot over 50% from the field as well as having 22 assists which shows how this team is continuing to come together."
Edward Waters will wrap up the 2024 calendar year with a pair of road meetings against Miles College on Thursday, December 19 at 8:30 pm EST and Spring Hill College on Saturday, December 21 at 5:30 pm EST.
