Jacksonville, FL., -- After a dominating road victory at Lane last week, the Edward Waters football team will try to conclude the 2024 season with a Homecoming, Senior Day and AME Classic win over the visiting Allen Yellowjackets. Kickoff for this Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) contest is scheduled for 2:12 pm in Jacksonville, FL at Nathaniel Glover Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY:
Saturday's meeting between the two teams is the 11th all-time meeting between the two African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church affiliated institutions, and the fifth meeting under the "AME Football Classic" moniker. Edward Waters dropped the first two meetings with the Yellow Jackets back in 1945 and 1947, but the Tigers have dominated the modern era of the series winning eight of the last nine meetings by a combined score of 242-176.

PREVIEWING EDWARD WATERS
The Edward Waters Tigers  are 2-7 so far on the season after picking up a commanding, 37-23 road victory at Lane College last Saturday, November 2nd. Offensively the Tigers are led by junior quarterback Juwan Dent, who has thrown for 936 total yards this season with seven passing touchdowns. Dent leads the nation with a 70.59 completion percentage and he also has three rushing touchdowns on the season. The ground game has been a committee led approach as Kentrelle Williams (303), Gregory Mango (278), Brady Tillman (254), and Johntarrious Thomas (244) have all rushed for over 100 yards this season. Preseason All-American Johnny Jones leads the Tigers in both catches with 27 and receiving yards at 347. Jones has also added 107 total punt return yards and 214 total kick return yards. Senior Deven Thompson has tallied 20 catches for 299 yards with two touchdowns, and he leads the receiving corps with 14.95 yards per catch.The tight end combo of Fatoma Paulk and Raveon Moore have both added a couple touchdown receptions so far on the year.  

Edward Waters is currently ranked fifth in the conference in total defense and first in the SIAC in passing defense. EWU is also ranked fourth in the conference in total interceptions led by two interceptions apiece from sophomores Stephan French, DJ Roberts and De'Angelo Sapp. French is also second on the team in tackles with 51, 15th best in the league. Senior Widmyer Garçon ranks 11th in the SIAC with a team-leading 53 total tackles. Jonathan Nesbit has compiled 38 total tackles and Datrell Rolle has added 31 tackles on the season.


PREVIEWING ALLEN UNIVERSITY
The Allen University Yellowjackets come into this SIAC matchup with a 2-7 overall record and an 1-6 mark in conference play after a huge 41-3 Homecoming  victory over Central State. Offensively, the Jackets are led by quarterback Jamir Dismukes who has thrown for 1,483 yards and 17 touchdowns. Dismukes was named HBCU National Player of the Week after his 265 yard, three touchdown performance against Central State. Running back Fabian Duncan is fourth the SIAC with 431 total yards rushing and five rushing touchdowns. Kaleb Commings leads the Yellowjacket pass catchers with has 444 receiving yards to go along with six touchdowns. Nanders Lawrence has added 438 yards and recorded four touchdowns.

Defensively, Andre Phillips leads Allen with 48 tackles, including nine tackles for loss. Kirkland Boone has added 40 tackles for the Jackets. Osirus Rhodes leads the team with 3.5 sacks and 26 total tackles.
