Jacksonville, Florida-The 2023 SIAC Champion Edward Waters men's volleyball squad opened the home portion of their 2024 schedule on Monday evening against the Lions of Emmanuel University at the Adams-Jenkins Complex. Unfortunately for the defending champs, it would not be a happy home opener as the Tigers dropped a 3-1 decision to the visiting Lions.

Edward Waters (1-2) dropped the opening set 25-21 to Emmanuel (1-4), before coming back to knot the contest up at a game apiece with a set #2 victory 25-17. The good feelings for the Tigers went away following set #2 as the Lions took the next two sets (25-19 and 25-21) to send EWU to their second straight loss in the early portion of the season.

The Tigers were outhit by the Lions .368 to .261 in the matchup. Despite the contest being close statistically, the most glaring stat that affected the EWU efforts was 20 errors against the Purple & Orange.  

Richard Hendricks led EWU and tied for the game high in kills with 14 kills, followed by Tavion Ford with 13 and Dillon Taylor with nine. Kenyon Haynes dished out 39 assists, and Oneil Daley had eight total digs.

Edward Waters will begin a four-game road trip starting on Friday, February 2nd against Talladega at 6:00pm in Alabama.
