Columbia, South Carolina-Edward Waters could not get a handle on the hot shooting of Benedict in their SIAC East Division road contest on Monday evening as the Tigers dropped their second straight contest, a 97-74 decision to the #15 ranked team in the country.
Edward Waters (8-11, 7-6 SIAC) scored a 3-pointer to open the game, but Benedict quickly jumped out to a 17-6 lead. Edward Waters got as close as six points, 19-13, but hot-shooting Benedict (16-2, 10-2 SIAC)Â soared to a 57-30 lead at the halftime break. Benedict never led by less than 22 points in the second half, and had as much as a 31-point lead which spelled doom for the Tigers.
Benedict outshot Edward 52% to 36% including a 54% to 13% edge in three point shooting.
R. J. Noord led a quartet of Tigers in double figures with 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Adonnis Tolbert finished with 14 points, while both
Goliath Mitchell and
Jeremiah Kwarteng each had 10 points.
The Purple & Orange will try their luck again on Wednesday evening against Allen University in another road contest at 7:30pm.
