Jacksonville, Florida-The 2023 SIAC Men's Volleyball Regular Season Champion, Edward Waters men's volleyball squad put a definitive stamp on the close of their historic regular season on Friday afternoon against Morehouse at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex. The Tigers made short work of the Maroon Tigers, sweeping them 3-0 to earn a perfect 10-0 mark against SIAC competition in history, the first time that has happened in the brief history of SIAC and HBCU Men's Volleyball. In the 33 sets Edward Waters played against SIAC competition, the Tigers only dropped three of those sets this season.
Edward Waters (14-4, 10-0 SIAC) was able to rest some of their key starters in the contest against Morehouse (0-17, 0-10 SIAC), allowing several reserves to get playing time. Reserves like the lone senior on the squad, defensive specialst/libero
Victor Jerez, who was honored at the conclusion of the contest for his contributions to the program on his Senior Day.
The Purple & Orange were led in the contest by
Tavion Ford, who totaled a match high 12 kills in the contest, followed by
Richard Hendricks with nine and
Jayden Durrah with eight. Durrah also added two service aces to his statline in the match.
Dillon Taylor tied for the match high in blocks with four, while
Kenyon Haynes had 28 assists, and the senior Jerez closed his final home appearance with a match high 10 digs.
The Tigers will enter next week's SIAC Men's Volleyball Championship as the #1 seed and will begin their quest for that elusive SIAC Postseason Championship next Thursday and Friday in Fort Valley, Georgia at Fort Valley State University.
