Savannah, Georgia-The Edward Waters men's basketball squad put a stamp on the program's first NCAA Division II and SIAC postseason victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Tigers knocked off Spring Hill 78-65 in the opening round of the 2023 TIAA SIAC Basketball Championship presented by Cricket.
The Tigers (9-18, 7-14) were buoyed by a strong second half, coming back from a five point halftime deficit and outscoring the Badgers (8-19, 5-14 SIAC) 49-31 to move on in the single-elimination tournament. Edward Waters had four players in double-figures, led by point guard
Cahlib Edwards with 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with six assists, two boards, and one steal.
Larry Kuimi chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds, while
Byron Abrams finished a rebound short of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.
Adnan Hussein finished his night with 12 points for the Purple & Orange.
EWU will advance to face Fort Valley State in the next round on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30pm. The contest will be aired live on ESPN+.
