Fairfield, Alabama-A rough fourth quarter showing proved to be the undoing for Edward Waters, falling 75-64 to Miles in the final game of the SIAC East/West Challenge at Knox-Windham Gymnasium Saturday evening.
The Lady Tigers (1-2, 0-0 SIAC) darted out to a 23-17 lead after one quarter of play, but a 20-9 second quarter sent them to the locker room down 37-32 at the half. Edward Waters clawed their way back in the third quarter to tie the contest up at 56-56, but again, a single digit showing in the fourth truly hurt their chances at winning. Miles (2-1, 0-0 SIAC) outscored Edward Waters 19-8 in the fourth, dropping their second straight contest.
After shooting 60% and 41% in the first and third quarters, the Lady Tigers shot 25% and 16% in the second and fourth. Turnovers also did not aid the EWU cause as 26 turnovers turned into 30 Lady Bears points. Edward Waters put two players in double figures in the contest led by
Khadija Smith with 18 points, followed by 15 points scored by
Kayla Horton.
The Lady Tigers will return to action on Saturday, November 25th at home against Central State with tipoff set for 3:00pm.
