Savannah, Georgia-Edward Waters came one step closer to achieving their first goal of clinching the SIAC East Division Championship with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Savannah State on Monday evening at Tiger Arena. The victory for the Lady Tigers also wrapped up a regular season sweep of their I-95 rivals.
Edward Waters (19-5, 16-1 SIAC) had one of their best offensive showings of the season, hitting a solid .327 on 48 kills in the match, while holding Savannah State (11-11, 8-10 SIAC) to .141 on 28 kills. The Lady Tigers also had a 5-2 edge in service aces, a 43-27 advantage in assists, as well as a 53-35 edge in digs. Savannah State was able to take a slim 6-4 advantage in blocks.
Fatima Ramirez once again had another solid performance for the Lady Tigers with a match high 22 kills to go along with nine digs.
Naomy Vergez Varona turned in a double-double showing with 16 kills and 11 digs, while
De'Nyla Harlan had five kills for the Lady Tigers.
Brandy Gilberry led EWU with four blocks, while
Mataiya Barber had a match high 41 assists, a
Jenieth Guzman had a match high in digs with 15.
Edward Waters will return home on Halloween Night, Tuesday, October 31st for a match against Albany State at 6:00pm. A win in that contest for Edward Waters will officially clinch their second consecutive SIAC East Division crown.
