Columbia, South Carolina-The EWU women's basketball squad had difficulty in stringing together two halves of basketball, ultimately coming up short in their 78-67 road loss Monday evening at Benedict at the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Edward Waters (9-12, 5-8 SIAC) had a quality start to the contest in the first half, aided by a dominant second quarter in which they outscored the defending SIAC champs 19-10 to take a 36-29 lead into the locker room. Unfortunately for the Purple & Orange, the second half was one to forget with Benedict (9-11, 7-8 SIAC) outscoring EWU 49-31.
Rebounding continues to be a source of frustration for the Lady Tigers as Benedict dominated the glass 45-27, including a 16-9 edge in offensive rebounding. Benedict also outshot Edward Waters 43.3% on 26-60 shooting to 42.6% on 26-62 shooting and took a 30-28 advantage in points in the paint.
Anissa Tuitt led the EWU efforts wtih 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting and also went 2-for-3 from three point range.
Khadija Smith finished with 14 points and
Molly Ragle chipped in with 12 for the Purple & Orange.
Edward Waters will have a bit of a break and will next hit the floor on Monday, February 6th for a 5:30pm tip against Clark Atlanta at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
