St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands-A shorthanded group of Tigers ran out of steam in the second half, falling 93-70 to Virginia State in their opening contest at the YES USVI Basketball Classic at the Mark C. Marin Center on the campus of the Antilles School.
EWU (2-8, 2-5 SIAC) had just seven players at their disposal as a few ot their other members of the team unfortunately were caught up in the post-holiday travel issues that plagued much of the country, delaying their returns back to Jacksonville to travel with the team to St. Thomas.Â
Along with the slim numbers on their travel roster, the Tigers struggled in shooting from the floor, connecting on just 41% of their shots including a rough 28.6% shooting afternoon in three-point shooting. Leading the way for the Tigers was
Tavares Oliver with 18 points, followed by
Ca'Darrius Crumb with 14 points and 11 boards,
Byron Abrams with 12 and
Cahlib Edwards with 10.
Edward Waters will face Clinton College in a Consolation Bracket game on Sunday Morning at a time to be announced later.
