Mobile, Alabama-Carrying the proverbial albatross of a four-game losing streak into Thursday evening's matchup, Edward Waters was able to exorcise those demons and earn a dominant 72-63 SIAC road win over Spring Hill at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. The win for the Lady Tigers also notches their first SIAC victory of the season after dropping their first three conference matchups.
Edward Waters (5-5, 1-3 SIAC) received a major shot in the arm with the return of junior point guard
Isis Smith, who missed the last three contests due to injury and senior center
Emari Bell who made her second appearance of the season also due to injury.Â
The Lady Tigers' defensive effort was arguably their best of the season as they were able to get back to doing what they do best. Forcing turnovers and turning them into scoring opportunities. On the night, the Purple & Orange forced 33 turnovers, with 26 of them coming on steals. EWU also scored 33 points off of Spring Hill (1-8, 0-4 SIAC) turnovers in the contest.Â
Jourdan Avery and
Isis Smith each tied for the team high in the contest with 14 points apiece for Edward Waters, while
Anissa Tuitt chipped in with 12 points and six boards for the Lady Tigers.
Edward Waters will close out the 2022 calendar year on Saturday, December 17th with another SIAC road matchup against the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University with tip-off slated for 3:00pm.
