Fort Valley, Georgia-The 2022 SIAC East Division Champion, Edward Waters women's volleyball squad closed out the regular season with a straight sets road sweep of Fort Valley State, 3-0 on Thursday evening at the HPE Arena.
Edward Waters (24-9, 17-2 SIAC) had to withstand a stiff challenge from Fort Valley State (6-21, 4-15 SIAC) as the Lady Wildcats pushed EWU to extra points in the first and third sets of the match. However, the Lady Tigers once again showed their championship mettle, holding off FVSU to earn the victory.
The Purple & Orange outhit Fort Valley State .250 to .161, racked up 46 kills, and 65 digs on the night. The dynamic duo of Fatima Ramirez and Audrianna Jones once again carried the Lady Tigers offensive efforts. Ramirez racked up another double double with 16 kills and 13 digs, while Jones once again had double figure kills with 12, including two service aces. Catherine Richards led the EWU block party with three blocks on the night, while Mataiya Barber dished out a match high 34 assists. Andrea Diaz Merced racked up 16 digs, with Kaylin Guillory posting 13.
Edward Waters will now turn their attentions to the 2022 Cricket Wireless SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship, where they will be the East Division's #1 seed. The quest for a championship will begin next Thursday, November 10th and will conclude on Saturday, November 12th at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center in Mobile, AL.
