Mobile, Alabama-Edward Waters' bid to win back-to-back championships in two different leagues unfortunately fell short with a 3-0 loss to West Division Champion Spring Hill in the 2022 Cricket SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship game on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

The Lady Tigers came out of the blocks slowly to start the contest, dropping the first set by an uncharacteristic 25-4 score. Edward Waters began to show some fight in the second set, but could not close the gap, falling 25-18. Spring Hill closed out the Lady Tigers in set #3 25-13, en route to winning their fourth consecutive SIAC championship and will represent the conference in the 2022 NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Edward Waters had difficulty controlling the Badgers' heavy hitters, surrendering 50 kills to SHC in the match, while only totaling 18 themselves. Fatima Ramirez led Edward Waters with six kills, while Saldy Amparo Smith finished with four, and Saniya Spalding totaling three. Mataiya Barber dished out 12 assists, while Andrea Diaz Merced, playing in her final collegiate match, finished with 13 digs for the Lady Tigers.

Despite the loss, Edward Waters has a lot to be proud of this season. EWU finished the year with a 26-10 overall record, 17-2 in SIAC play in the regular season, and clinched the 2022 SIAC East Division Championship. The Lady Tigers will look to regroup and reload in the offseason with their sights firmly squared on a championship in 2023.
