Track & Field Turns Attentions To NAIA National Championships

Jacksonville, Florida-After another successful season which saw Edward Waters claim its seventh Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Team Championship and fourth GCAC title in a row, 12 members of the team and one women's track and field team member will turn their attentions to the 67th NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The events will take place May 24th-26th at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Representing Edward Waters in the Men's track events are 2017 All-American Dontae LeCorn who will compete in the 100m. He punched his ticket to the NAIA's by clocking a 10.66s mark, good enough for the NAIA B Standard at the UNF Invitational last weekend. Fellow All-American Carl Elliott, III will once again compete at Nationals in the 110m Hurdles, hitting the A Standard at the GCAC Championships with a time of 14.37s, the fifth fastest time in the country. Freshman Jourdan Bell will make his debut at the NAIA's thanks to his B Standard qualifying time of 53.99s he hit at the GCAC Championships. The Men's 4x100m Relay Team which features, All-Americans Wayne Richardson, Reginald Wright, Carl Elliott, III, & Dontae LeCorn will compete after hitting their A Standard time of 41.42s at the UNF Invitational. Another relay squad will compete at the NAIA's as the Men's 4x400m Relay Team (Mikevion Hall, Wayne Richardson, Soloman Stevens, & Jamal Bouie) qualified after their 3:16.75 time also at the UNF Invitational.

In the field events, Sophomore Farrin Brownlowe's 6'8" mark in the High Jump at the Paine Lion Invitational was good enough to hit the NAIA B Standard and earn a spot in Gulf Shores.

Representing the Women at the National Championships is Freshman Zyshai Brown who's 11.99s mark in the Women's 100m at the Paine Lion Invitational, was good to hit the NAIA's A Standard and also earn her spot at Nationals.
