Joseph Carter begins his first season as the defensive coordinator at Edward Waters College.
Carter comes to Jacksonville with a wealth of experience and success as a gridiron coach totaling nearly 20 years on the sideline. In his most recent coaching stint, Carter spent 12 seasons at Tuskegee University as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
While at Tuskegee, Carter helped turn the Golden Tigers into an HBCU and NCAA Division II powerhouse. He was a part of seven SIAC football championships, four HBCU National Championships, and helped lead TU to four consecutive Division II playoff apperances from 2013 to 2016. Carter's defenses at Tuskegee consistently ranked near or at the top of the SIAC in every defensive statistical category, and made several apperances in the top 20 rankings of defenses nationally in Division II.
Prior to his time at Tuskegee, Carter spent six seasons at Southern Arkansas from 2001 to 2006 as defensive backs coach as well as strength & conditioning coach. Carter also had coaching stops at West Alabama, The University of the Cumberlands, and his Alma Mater, Eastern New Mexico.
Carter also lettered in football at ENMU, earning 'Best Blocking Back' honors as a senior. Carter holds a Bachelors and Masters in Sports Administration from ENMU as well.
